Strategies for Hotel Social Media Marketing- Hospitality Minds

5 Hotel Social Media Strategies for a Winning Online Presence

The marketing of hotels through social media has been gaining ground in recent years. Any hotel’s social media strategy has to go beyond posting room rates and discounts. It’s about what users wish to see and know rather than what you, as an hotelier, want to update online. A hotel’s social media marketing ideas can range from the basics to the most innovative as hoteliers need more than just visibility online. Reviews, shares from users, comments and more are useful to define your brand and its offerings. When planned well, a hotel’s social media campaign can give a massive boost to the revenue and brand presence.

1. TIMING IS KEY
When is the best time to post on social media?
Whenever your audience is most likely to see and engage with your great content. A well-timed post can lead to more likes, comments, shares and click-throughs. Although it feels like everyone is on their phone 24/7, there are key points throughout the day and week that get the most social media traffic.
·         Instragram
When people scroll through Instagram, they almost always do so on a mobile device. Does this mean off-work hours work best? After posting over 1,000 photos and videos throughout the day and night, the best time to post on Instagram is from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday.
·         Facebook
71 percent of Facebook users visit the site every day- more than any other social network. People login from both their desktop and mobile devices (at work, home, and elsewhere), but mobile use is increasing. In fact, at least a quarter of Facebook users in 14 markets around the world are mobile users only.
The best time to post on Facebook is between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. And on the weekends from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
·         Twitter
A lot of people use Twitter like a sort of digital newspaper, scrolling through content on their downtime or when they sneak in a break at work. The best time to post on Twitter is at 3 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Linkedln
LinkedIn is a professional network, so posting during working hours makes sense. LinkedIn traffic comes via mobile. Like Facebook and Instagram, LinkedIn’s algorithm is designed to show you the most relevant content. The best times to post on Linkedln are 7:45 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 12:45 p.m., and 5:45 p.m. Monday to Thursday.
2. KEEP IT CURRENT
Many platforms like Twitter have a trending topics section, which makes it really easy to find out what people are talking about. Instagram and Facebook have similar features that are easy ways to keep your business relevant. Using popular hashtags or mentions is the easiest way for people to see your posts. This is also a useful feature for local events that will be happening near your hotel to motivate people to not just find a hotel, but plan a vacation.
Integrating current memes into your social media pages is also a great way to attract people’s attention, and might even get you an “in” with the millennial. But please, for everyone’s sake, make sure it’s current, and still a relevant meme. There’s nothing more cringe worthy than finding an old meme on a recent post from a business, so make sure to keep up with the latest meme culture.
3. USE PHOTOGRAPH

4. CREATE AN AESTHETIC
The best looking, and most popular pages have a certain look or tone to them. It’s good not only for consistency, but also to make your page look more professional. This is especially important for Instagram, Pinterest, and Snapchat, if you decide to use these platforms. One of the best ways to create a look for your page is to stick with a colour scheme. This can be accomplished by editing the photos, or putting filters over the images so they all look similar. Providing a beautiful page that people can scroll through makes your hotel seem much more “alive.” Again, there is an obvious difference between amateur and professional photography. This is not the place to cut corners, so don’t even think about using your phone!

5. PROMOTE YOURSELF
Have no shame when it comes to self-promotion. You absolutely cannot be timid when it comes to ways to promote your hotel with social media. If you want attention from the public, demand it. Encourage people to follow, like, or pin you by offering incentives. For example, on Facebook or Instagram, if people check-in or geo-tag your hotel, give them a discount or a freebee for promoting your business. Also encourage people to post to their social media using your unique hashtags that you can later repost onto your site.
Enhancing your social media game will strongly increase your marketing presence, and you’ll gain a much broader audience. Social media isn’t just for millennial anymore; in fact it’s become one of the fastest growing strategies in hotel marketing.
